Madeleine McCann, who was aged 3 disappeared from Portugal in 2007, and a German child abuser has been identified as a child abuser.
German prosecutors claim that McCann is dead after the child abuser and murderer is is being investigated over her disappearance, no body has ever been found.
Braunschweig state prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said, “We assume the girl is dead.
“The public prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig is investigating a 43-year-old German national on suspicion of murder.”
McCann disappeared from her bedroom, on a family holiday in the resort of Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, whilst her parents were dining with friends.
The German man lived in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007, he robbed hotels and holiday apartments and raped a woman at the Praia da Luz resort.
British police appealed for information over the mans Volkswagen camper van and a Jaguar, which he used at the time of McCann’s disappearance.
German police confirmed the man has been sentenced to prison many times for sexual abuse of children over the years and also lived near to the resort where the McCann’s were staying.
“All we have ever wanted is to find her, uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice,” her parents, Kate and Gerry, said in a statement issued before the German prosecutor spoke.
“We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know as we need to find peace.”
