The French President Emmanuel Macron has said that he really doubts that Vladimir Putin wants “peace now” in Ukraine.

Macron is sceptical over the Russian dictator as the former KGB spymaster knows all too well how to play the game with Donald Trump.

Last night The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders met with Trump at the White House to discuss ending the war.

Macron said that Russia is “the aggressor,” Moscow is the “country which decided to ill people, stole children and who refused a ceasefire and peace”.

“We cannot just create an equivalent situation between Ukraine and Russia.”

Following talks in the White House Macron told NBC News, “When I look at the situation and the facts, I don’t see President Putin very willing to get peace now.”

He praised the US President over his “optimism” in wanting to secure a peace deal, he insisted this “must be taken seriously.”

The French President added, “If he considers he can get a deal done, this is great news and we have to do whatever we can to have a great deal.”

The NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Sir Keir Starmer and Macron were among some of the leaders who attended the White House talks with the US President, the EU Commissioner Ursala von der leyen.

Trump posted on his Truth Social on Monday evening that the talks were “very good,” he added, “During the meeting we discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, which guarantees would be provided by the various European countries, with a coordination with the United States of America.

“Everyone is happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine.

“At the conclusion of the meetings, I called President Putin and began arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and president Zelensky.

“After the meeting takes place, we will have a trilat which would be the two presidents plus myself.”
