Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to Sir Keir Starmer that the UK is “obsessed” with the Ukraine war.

The ministry said that London has “the desire to constantly raise the stakes” in Ukraine and warned that the Prime Minister is “pushing Nato partners to a dangerous brink, beyond which a new global conflict is not far away.”

This comes as Starmer was at odds with the US President during high stakes talks in the White House on Monday evening over Ukraine being told by Donald Trump Kyiv cannot join NATO.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the US President at the Oval Office in the White House followed by a further meeting with European leaders.

European leaders rallied around President Zelensky after February’s meeting in the White House which was a total disaster.

Prior to the White House meeting Trump posted on social media that there will be “no going into NATO by Ukraine” and told Ukraine they will not be “getting back” Crimea.

Despite this Downing Street said the UK’s position on the matter is final, Ukraine’s position on NATO membership “hasn’t changed” and Kyiv is on an “irreversible path” to join the alliance.

A spokesperson for Starmer said: “Russia cannot have a veto against Ukraine’s pathway to the EU or Nato.”
