A necessity for those that travel, often forgotten until the last minute, is finding airport parking. With the option of getting the train becoming less possible, those who haven’t sorted it out yet should be aware it’s about to get a lot more costly.

British travelers heading out for romantic trips over Valentine’s Day weekend will face a cost of a living squeeze – as the price of airport parking soars. Lovers are expected to pay up to 67% more than if they were travelling on the same dates in March.

New data by YourParkingSpace has revealed that various UK airports are increasing car parking fees during this romantic time, with motorists expected to pay as much as £57.90 more for these dates.

Ahead of the romantic getaway period, experts at YourParkingSpace are putting a warning out to travellers flying from a number of airports between the 10th – 15th February. Their data has revealed there is a potential hidden cost that travel-loving couples could face, adding an unnecessary expense.

The biggest difference in car parking fees was at London Heathrow Airport. Parking will cost £120.60 for the 10 to 15 March 2023, but has been increased to £178.50 for the 10 to 15 February- a whopping £57.90 price difference! Charges for the Valentine’s Day period were higher by as much as 48% for this week compared to a month later.

London Luton Airport was also found to be raising their prices significantly on key Valentine’s travel dates. Charges to leave a car for a short stay from 10 to 15 March at the airport is £51.99, while a short-stay fee from 10th to 15th February is £86.99 – meaning a huge hike of 67%.

London Gatwick Airport and London Stanstead Airport also rank 4th and 6th on our list, with Gatwick hiking prices up by £11.00 and Stanstead hiking prices up by £9.00 for Valentine’s Day travel.

Out of all the airports reviewed, there were various locations that remained consistent with their parking prices – including Leeds Bradford, Belfast City and Southampton Airport.

Speaking on the price hikes, Harrison Woods, CEO at YourParkingSpace said, “Romance may already feel a little deflated for couples dealing with inflated costs and bills.

“Anyone travelling over the Valentine’s Day season will be stunned by some of these sky-high increases in car parking fees where some airports are increasing costs to cash in on the busy romantic travel period. If you are travelling over the Valentine’s Day period, head to the YourParkingSpace website to find off-site convenient, and affordable parking for your journey.”
