The Liberal Democrats have now paid money to promote the Mirror’s story showing the image of Tory aides holding a “raucous” party during lockdown last year.

The Lib Dems are promoting the image to voters on Facebook in North Shropshire ahead of the by-election which will be held on Thursday, with the caption “Tell them the party’s over.”

The Lib Dems slammed the Conservatives after the Mirror broke the story of “Shaun Bailey and his mates living it” during lockdown.

Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Daisy Cooper said the new photo shows “just how rotten Johnson’s Conservative Party has become.”

Cooper said, “The image of Bailey and his mates living it up at Conservative HQ while the British public were locked down and the NHS was saving lives, is another punch to the stomach to everyone who followed the rules.

“From No 10 to Tory HQ, the slew of rule-breaking revelations show that Boris Johnson has set a very low bar for standards within his party and his presence in Downing Street is eroding public trust.”

The image which appeared showed 24 Tory aides crowded together at the Tories Westminster HQ in room during lockdown last year, with billionaire Tory donor Nick Candy.

The event was organised by Shaun Bailey who was running for the London Assembly police and crime committee at the time.

Bailey was approached by the Mirror on Tuesday evening after the blatant breach of Covid laws on 14 December 2020 and then immediately resigned as chair of the London Assembly’s police and crime committee.
