He might have spent bits of last year stuck on a zipwire and dancing to the Spice Girls, but Boris Johnson has been named the most influential man in the UK.

The London mayor came first in GQ magazine’s The 100 Most Influential Men In Britain 2013 beating George Osborne, Prince Charles and Prime Minister David Cameron.

Johnson’s victory has been attributed to his handling of the Olympics and being re-elected for a second term in 2012.

The list, to be published tomorrow, sees many of the top 50 spots taken by British athletes, with champion cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy at joint 15th place and Mo Farah at 34th spot.

Prince Charles made it to 12th place and Prince Harry stood 18th on the list. Other politicians who made it onto the list are Education Secretary Michael Gove and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

The judges of the list included Sir Richard Branson, retail tycoon Sir Philip Green, public relations executive Matthew Freud, Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti, Sir Paul Nurse, president of the Royal Society, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, co-director of the Serpentine Gallery.
