Benjamin Netanyahu has announced an expansion of Israel’s military operations in southern Lebanon, targeting the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group.

The Israeli Prime Minister stated that he has directed the military to enlarge what he refers to as the “existing security buffer zone.”

He has pledged to alter the security situation in the region fundamentally.

“I have just instructed the military to expand the existing security buffer zone further. We are determined to change the situation in the north fundamentally,” Netanyahu said during a visit to northern Israel.

He also mentioned, “We have eliminated thousands of Hezbollah terrorists, and most importantly, we have removed the significant threat posed by 150,000 missiles and rockets intended to destroy Israeli cities.” However, he cautioned that “Hezbollah still retains a residual capability to launch rockets at us.

Netanyahu emphasised that this decision aims to strengthen Israel’s security along its northern frontier.

This announcement comes amid rising tensions along Israel’s northern border, where cross-border hostilities have heightened fears of a broader regional escalation. In Lebanon, officials report that more than 1,100 people have been killed in the fighting since the war began.
