The Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico is backing the US President Donald Trump as he agrees with him that President Volodymyr Zelensky could have ended the war “shortly after it began.”

Fico said that Vladimir Putin was justified with the full-scale invasion of Ukraine as Russia had “serious security reasons” for doing so.

Fico said on Friday, “Ukraine’s continued access to SpaceX-owned Starlink was brought up in discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky turned down an initial proposal from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent,” Reuters cited the sources.

“The conflict could have been brought to an end shortly after it began.”

The Slovakian Prime Minister also backed Trump’s criticism over President Zelensky, Fico said the Ukrainian leader “actually needs this war” so he can remain in power.

Fico said, “When there is a war, there cannot be democratic elections… When there is a war, it is difficult to investigate where a huge part of the funding given to Ukraine ended up.”

Trump has accused Zelensky of being a dictator and said he is not essential to the peace negotiations of Ukraine.

Trump wrote, “A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left.”

Trump added that Russia had “taken a lot of territory, so they have the cards” in any peace deal with Ukraine.

Ukraine has called Fico the “kremlin’s mouthpiece” and expressed their “deep disappointment” over Fico’s statements.

Fico also said in his speech that the “majority” of EU states have allegedly “endorsed the idea that the war in Ukraine should be used to weaken Russia politically and economically.”

“Ukraine has been a victim of a bad strategy,” Fico claimed.

Fico accused the EU of “pushing themselves to the US-Russian peace negotiating table, even though for three years now, they have and still do openly support the war in Ukraine.”

He said that the “peace talks” might not lead to peace for Ukraine in the long-term, he added, “However, Europe should, in any case, help the US president to end the senseless killings in Ukraine as quickly as possible and not hinder him from achieving this goal.”
