Iran threatens to seize British ship after Commandos storm oil tanker

After British Royal Marine Commandos stormed an oil tanker in Gibraltar on Thursday Iran has now issued a threat to seize a British tanker.

On Thursday an Iranian super tanker suspected of carrying oil to Syria breaching European Union sanctions was seized by British Commandos with the authorities in Gibraltar.

A Gibraltar government spokesman said the crew of the Grace 1 tanker are being interviewed as witnesses and not being treated as criminals.

Mohsen Rezai, a senior officer in Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards (IRG) tweeted, “If Britain does not release the Iranian oil tanker, it is the [Iranian] authorities duty to seize a British oil tanker.”
