Europeâs largest e-hailing app has announced it will be helping boost voter turnout in London by offering 50 per cent off all journeys on Thursday 8th June while polling stations are open, from 7am to 10pm.
The move comes as part of mytaxiâs ongoing campaign to get London moving freely and in a bid to boost voter turnout in areas where itâs tough for some voters to get to their local polling station.
Andy Jones, General Manager at mytaxi, said, âIn 2015, 34 per cent of eligible voters didnât vote and itâs well documented that in General Elections the non-voters always have the power to swing the result. As its mytaxiâs mission to get London moving more freely weâre very pleased to be helping voters get to the polls this year!â
Formerly known as Hailo, mytaxi launched in London in March. With over 17,500 black cab drivers mytaxi has a response time of less than three minutes in central London. With all vehicles having wheelchair access and a wide range of accessibility aids, everybody can travel wherever they want, whenever they want.
âEveryoneâs vote counts and we believe that no one should be prevented from getting out to vote due to transport issues or busy London lifestyles. As our drivers have all completed the Knowledge; this ensures they know the best routes to get passengers to their local polling station faster.â
