During ‘routine flying operations’ a state of the art British F35 fighter jet crashed into the Mediterranean Sea and the pilot safely ejected, Hostile action is not thought to be at play.
The F35 is the next generation fighter jet and costs around £100m and is from the UK’s flagship aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday, “A British F35 pilot from HMS Queen Elizabeth ejected during routine flying operations in the Mediterranean this morning.
“The pilot has been safely returned to the ship and an investigation has begun, so it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
The incident took place on Wednesday morning at around 10am UK time and a full military investigation will urgently take place.
