The Prime Minister has been warned by the influential 1922 Committee backbenchers MPs that he must not do anything to destroy New Years Eve.
On Monday Boris Johnson is to hold crunch talks with the chief medical officer, Professor Chris Whitty and the scientific advisor Sir Patrick Vallance.
The government advisors will discuss on whether or not to introduce new measures in England and Johnson will decide on Tuesday if he will introduce new legal restrictions this week and will then have to recall Parliament.
The Prime Minister and the Cabinet will be provided with evidence and data which includes hospital admissions, new cases and the death rate.
A Cabinet Minister told the Guardian, “The data so far is still struggling to be persuasive of legal changes to be required.”
Another said it was “right that we didn’t rush last time given positive, early data.”
Sir Graham Brady who chairs the 1922 influential committee warned the Prime Minister not to ruin New Year’s Eve plans.
Sir Graham said, “Enough is enough.”
“There must be no new unnecessary restrictions this week whether the PM sees fit to recall Parliament for an emergency session or whether he resorts simply to more guidance.”
