In a $600m (£454m) deal, Apple is buying part of UK-based chip supplier Dialog and also hiring 300 of Dialog’s engineers working in the UK.

The deal, which also includes some of the Reading-based company’s patents and facilities, is one of Apple’s biggest takeovers in headcount terms.

Talking about how the deal will provide “clarity” and “minimise disruption” to the business, Dialog CEO Jalal Bagherli told media: “This transaction reaffirms our long-standing relationship with Apple, and demonstrates the value of the strong business and technologies we have built at Dialog.”

Apple has long used Dialog’s products to monitor and control power consumption in its iPhones and iPads.
