From today, small business owners have the chance to earn more Avios than ever before from their business spending, with the refreshed British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Card.

Avios is a world-leading travel rewards currency that can be spent on a wide range of travel experiences such as reward flights, flight upgrades, hotel stays and car hire – making them greatly valued by travel lovers.

A new tiered Avios Annual Bonus will give Cardmembers 10,000 bonus Avios for every £20,000 of spending, up to three times per calendar year. This gives businesses of different sizes the opportunity to earn a bonus every year and means Cardmembers can earn up to an additional 30,000 bonus Avios annually.

Combined with the earn rate of 1.5 Avios for every £1 spent, which remains unchanged, business owners have the opportunity to earn up to 120,000 Avios each year, if they spend £60,000 on their Card. This amount of Avios is enough for two peak economy return flights from London to destinations such as New York or Dubai.

Additionally, for a limited time only, new Cardmembers can also earn a Welcome Bonus of 60,000 Avios when they spend £5,000 in the first three months, making it one of the most rewarding Avios bonus offers ever from American Express.

With more Avios on offer, Cardmembers can use their routine business spending, be that advertising, technology, office supplies, travel or utilities, to help fulfil their personal travel aspirations.

Other benefits that British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Cardmembers can enjoy include:

  • The ability for Cardmembers to continue to earn 1.5 Avios for every £1 spent on the Card
  • Increased earn rate with On Business – British Airways’ loyalty programme for businesses: Exclusively with this Card, Cardmembers will earn 2 On Business Points for every eligible £1 spent with British Airways.
  • Payment flexibility to increase cashflow with up to 56 days interest free period on purchases (if Cardmembers pay the full amount owed on each statement date on time each month)
  • Complimentary additional cards available for employees to consolidate all spending under one business account.

Evan Lubeck, Vice President Global Commercial Services at American Express said: “Our Card offers small business owners increased travel rewards through their day-to-day business spending, every year. This Card, particularly through the new annual bonus, is designed to reward businesses no matter their size or circumstances. Small business owners are hard-working and passionate, and have shown incredible resilience over the past 18 months, and we want to support them as they get back on their feet and into the air again, on their next hard-earned trip with British Airways.”

Adam Daniels, Chief Executive Officer of IAG Loyalty, said: “We are excited to be increasing the opportunities that come with the Accelerating Business Card, unlocking more benefits for British Airways Executive Club members. We know that after over a year of postponed or cancelled holidays, customers want to get away, so we are delighted that Cardmembers can now earn more Avios, enabling them to book or upgrade that well-deserved trip away.”

The British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Card comes with an annual fee of £250. Purchase APR is 22.2% p.a variable with a representative APR of 96.7% based on an assumed credit limit of £1200. For full terms, please see here.

The Card also offers travel insurance benefits, covering flight cancellations, delays and delayed luggage when paying with the Card, and greater protection if flying with British Airways. It also offers Purchase and Refund protection.

Cardmembers can also gain access to over £500 value through Amex Offers[4], providing incremental savings that can be re-invested back into businesses.

The existing On Business Annual Bonus will cease from 1 January 2022. If Cardmembers haven’t already achieved the On Business Annual Bonus in their current Cardmembership year, they will have until 31 December, 2021, to reach the £20,000 spending threshold to receive their existing bonus, regardless of their Card anniversary date. Spending between 1 September and 31 December, 2021, will also contribute towards the new Avios annual bonus.
