54% growth for London finance group as SMEs seek alternatives to banks

FBX Capital Group, the London-based financial advisory group comprising FBX Capital Partners and Funding Bay, has reported significant growth as UK SMEs increasingly turn to alternative lending solutions amid an uncertain economic environment.

Revenue increased by 54%, while total funding arranged rose by 49% from £96.5 million to £143.4 million. Over the same period, the group’s client base grew by 57%, with 570 businesses funded.

The firm also continued to expand its team, increasing headcount from 44 to 52 employees, with plans to reach 65 by the end of 2026.

Businesses are continuing to face pressure from elevated inflation, higher operating costs, persistent supply chain disruption and ongoing geopolitical instability, affecting global markets. Conflict in the Middle East has further increased uncertainty around energy prices and investor confidence.

At the same time, many SMEs continue to encounter delays and stricter criteria from traditional lenders, prompting a growing shift towards alternative finance providers capable of delivering funding decisions significantly faster when opportunities or challenges arise.

Founded in 2017, FBX Capital Group has now facilitated hundreds of millions of pounds in funding and says current trading conditions continue to drive demand for flexible, non-bank funding options.

The group specialises in arranging debt finance facilities of between £5,000 and £50 million for SMEs across sectors including manufacturing, construction, retail, hospitality, healthcare and technology.

Alex Fenton, Partner at FBX Capital Group, said: “Businesses are operating in an environment where uncertainty has become the norm. High inflation, rising employment costs, geopolitical instability, and ongoing disruption across global markets are all feeding into increasingly difficult conditions for SMEs.

“What we’re seeing is a major structural shift in how businesses approach funding. Many companies simply cannot afford to wait months for traditional lending decisions while costs continue to rise.

“The growth we have seen over the last 12 months clearly reflects both the resilience of the SME market and the increasing importance of specialist funding advisory firms that enable businesses to prioritise speed and flexibility.”

FBX Capital Group expects demand to continue growing into the second half of 2026, with the group projecting 50% year-on-year growth.
