With millions of Brits heading to pub gardens and live venues for England’s massive quarter-final clash against Norway this weekend, finding a parking spot is expected to be a tricky nightmare.
However, football fans rushing out for the 10 pm kickoff are being warned that abandoning their car for “just for the 90 minutes of the match” or even briefly dropping off and picking up friends can risk an instant fine.
To help drivers responsibly park, Motoring expert Saul Turner, at National Scrap Car, is warning Brits to leave enough time to park safely before kickoff, even if you’re on pick-up duty.
Rushing past a parking meter, blocking a cycle lane or waiting on double yellow lines can result in an immediate Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) of up to £70, rising to £130 in London, or even see their car towed away.
Saul Turner, motoring expert at National Scrap Car, said: “Finding a parking spot near a packed pub on match day can be a nightmare, but abandoning your car on double yellow lines ‘just for 90 minutes’ can prove a costly mistake.
“Rule 238 of the Highway Code is clear-cut: you must not park or wait on these lines at any time. It carries an immediate Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) of up to £70 and upto £130 fine in London.
“Drivers must also not park outside a designated parking bay in a busy car park, rush to the match without paying the parking meter, or park in a cycle lane, or they risk a fine. Don’t let a good game end with a vehicle recovery trip; allow plenty of time before kick-off to find legal street parking, or use a designated car park.”
