Twitter is to ban all political advertising worldwide, saying that the reach of such messages “should be earned, not bought”.
Social media rival Facebook recently ruled out a ban on political ads.
Ian Sherr, editor of tech website CNet, tells BBC Radio Five Live’s Wake up to Money: “They are staking out ground separate from Facebook, which has been under pressure.
“Twitter says it is not going to be the arbiter of truth. Twitter is getting its moment in the sun, looking like good guys. It will be interesting to see how Facebook responds.”
