The US President has falsely claimed that 82% of Ukrainians are “demanding that a settlement be made” to for territorial concessions or even limits on sovereignty.

Donald Trump’s statement contradicts the Kyiv Post interviews and other surveys which have been conducted.

The US President has also stated he is “interested” as to when Ukraine will hold their next elections, Trump believes that over 80% “want a deal” for the war to end.

The Trump administration have been piling pressure on the Ukrainian President to give up the Donbas region to Vladimir Putin as part of a settlement, if this were not to happen then this will be a red line for the Russian dictator, but this is not allowed under the Ukrainian constitution.

Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that Ukrainians could make the decision on the price for peace, by possibly holding elections or referendum, the Kyiv Post reported.

RBC-Ukraine reported that Zelensky said, “I believe the people of Ukraine will answer this question. Whether through elections or a referendum, the Ukrainian people must take a position.”

Zelensky said that the current proposals would see all Ukrainian force pull out from their own land, but Russian troops would be allowed to stay, this would be seen as a victory for Putin.

“What the Ukrainian military can deter, how they can position themselves, where they can destroy the occupier. This affects the entire diplomatic structure,” he added.

Once the war ends Sir Keir Starmer will co-chair a Coalition of the Willing, he told Zelensky, the French President Emmanuel Macron and the German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during a call.

The Coalition of Willing will be European led which will see troops patrol Ukraine to keep the peace.

A Downing Street spokesperson said, “Intensive work on the peace plan is continuing and will continue in the coming days.”

This has been met with anger by the Kremlin and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned that the peacekeepers will therefore be “legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces.

Lavrov said, “They are still drumming up the conflict by establishing the so-called Coalition of the Willing, by increasing their military expenditure, and trying to save their own political future. They are ramping up Russia’s care, promote the ideas of a Russian attack in the future.

“They are still having and harbouring fantasies of sending their own military troops to Ukraine as so-called peacekeepers.

“But these so-called peacekeepers would immediately become legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces. The Europeans must understand that.”
