Boris Johnson travelled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Tuesday to meet with Her Majesty the Queen where she accepted his resignation as Prime Minister.

Johnson and his wife Carrie were with the Queen for around 40 minutes and left shortly before midday and he will now remain as a backbench MP.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement, “The Right Honourable Boris Johnson MP had an Audience of The Queen this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which Her Majesty was graciously pleased to accept.”

Liz Truss also travelled to Balmoral with her husband Hugh O’Leary to meet with Queen Elizabeth II and was invited to form a government and she is now officially the new British Prime Minister.

Truss is now the third British female Prime Minister and she will now travel back to London and will make a statement outside Downing Street around 4pm this afternoon and will appoint her new Cabinet.
