The collapse of the ceiling at the Apollo theatre during a performance on Thursday night has left 76 people injured, seven of them seriously. Fortunately there were no fatalities.
The emergency response involved 25 ambulance crews, an air ambulance, eight fire engines and more than 50 firefighters. The police were also involved.
Witnesses said the emergency services arrived within minutes, and in addition, three London buses with police escorts were used to transport the wounded to hospital.
Mark Haddon, the author of the book on which the play is based, tweeted: “It’s been horrifying sitting here watching what has been happening at the Apollo this evening. I’m hugely relieved that no-one has died.”
Support has flooded in for the rapid response which ensured all the audience were helped out of the theatre as quickly as possible.
