In its trading update today, budget airline Ryanair announced that profit after tax has fallen 7 per cent to €1.2bn in the six months to 30 September, blaming ‘the worst summer of ATC disruptions on record’.
However, the airline said that its revenue had increased 8 per cent year-on-year to €4.8bn. Passenger numbers had also increased 6 per cent to 76.6m during the period.
“Our traffic, which was repeatedly impacted by the worst summer of ATC [air traffic control] disruptions on record, grew 6% at an unchanged 96% load factor,” Chief executive Michael O’Leary said.
He further said that the airline’s cost advantage over rivals was widening and that “consolidation will create growth opportunities for Ryanair’s lowest fare/lowest cost model”.
