Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has said that Vladimir Putin is not interested in ending the war unless Ukraine “capitulates completely.”

On 24 February Kremlin officials rejected any ceasefire unless Ukraine completely “capitulates” to Russia.

The ISW said that Putin and Kremlin officials have “not abandoned their original war aims in Ukraine and continue to invoke their goals of ‘denazifying’ and ‘demilitarising’ Ukraine and banning Ukraine’s ability to join any security blocs in the future, despite Russia’s failure to defeat Ukraine militarily over the last three years.”

Even though the US President Donald Trump believes a peace deal can be done, although Puttin is rejecting the peace agreement with Kyiv as he still has an appetite to continue with the war.

The ISW wrote, “Putin continues to signal to the Russian military and society that he will not end the war until Ukraine capitulates completely and that he has no interest in a negotiated peace agreement that requires Russia to compromise its long-standing war aims, despite Putin’s efforts to signal interest in peace negotiations to Western leaders.”

Putin seemed annoyed last week and this week as President Trump said that Moscow has “no problem” allowing the European Union to send troops to Ukraine to guarantee peace.

On Monday Trump said in the Oval Office with the French President Emmanuel Macron, that “specifically asked” Putin about European troops being inside Ukraine, the Russian leader allegedly said he “has no problem” with this.

However, last week the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, “the deployment of troops… [from] NATO countries, but under a foreign flag, under the flag of the European Union or under national flags… is, of course, unacceptable to us.”

Lavrov made it is exceptionally clear at a press conference in Turkey, Russia will stop all military activity once peace talks bring about a “solid, stable result that suits Russia” and the “realities” on the frontlines.

On Wednesday Lavrov also dismissed any peacekeepers in Ukraine after a ceasefire, saying this is “empty talk.”

Lavrov said that Britain and France are wanting to fuel the conflict and having peacekeepers in Ukraine is “deceit” as it will allow them to rearm.

Lavrov warned UK peacekeepers will draw Ukraine into NATO and this will “totally destroy” Russian speakers rights in Ukraine, he claims.
