Porsches across Russia stop working which could have been ‘done deliberately’

Across Russia hundreds of Porsches have stop working due to the satellite-based security system which could have been “done deliberately.”

Owners are reporting that they cannot start their engines or the engines stop working soon after being turned on, with some complaining they have been locked out of their cars.

Local media was told by Russia’s largest dealership that it is not known what caused this, but it could be an act of sabotage.

The Rolf spokesperson told RBC media outlet, “It’s possible this was done deliberately,” and cars built after 2013 which are fitted with anti-theft Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) are affected.

Since Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine on 24 February 2022 the German manufacturer suspended all commercial operations.

The Rolf dealership said the first reported cases of Porsches being impacted on 28 November.

Rolf’s service director Yulia Trushkova told RBC, “Currently, there is no connection for all models and types of internal combustion engines.

“Any vehicle can be blocked. Currently, the blocking can be bypassed by resetting the factory alarm unit and disassembling it. We are continuing to investigate the issue and the mechanics’ options for unlocking the vehicles.”

Porsche states on their website, “The Porsche Vehicle Tracking System is designed to seamlessly operate in a covert fashion, eliminating the need for daily activation and deactivation.”
