Motorists warned some forecourts are ‘experiencing stockouts of fuel’

Motorists are facing rising fuel costs and concerns about shortages as the crisis in the Middle East drives up prices at the pump.

Currently, diesel prices have reached their highest level in over three years, with drivers paying more than 171p per litre.

Meanwhile, petrol prices have increased to 147.19p per litre, the highest in nearly two years, according to RAC Fuel Watch data.

Experts warn that prices could rise even further. Simon Williams predicts that petrol could reach 150p per litre and diesel could hit 180p by Easter, potentially making it the most expensive Easter on the roads since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Drivers are also experiencing disruptions, with some service stations reporting fuel shortages. For instance, motorists struggled to refuel at Woodall Services on the M1, illustrating the growing pressure on supply chains.

A spokesperson for Welcome Break told GB News: “We are currently experiencing stockouts of fuel on a small number of our sites.

In the affected forecourts, the team are waiting on their next delivery which may have been delayed for a variety of reasons. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

While these shortages are not yet widespread, contingency plans are being considered, including fuel rationing, lower speed limits, and even military support for tanker deliveries.

In response to these challenges, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has ordered the rollout of Labour’s Fuel Finder tool, which is designed to help drivers locate the cheapest fuel and identify shortages in real time.
