Ukraine has launched a massive drone strike at the Russian, Ryazan oil refinery and at the Ryazan thermal power plant overnight.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOS) were involved in attacks which was confirmed by the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

The oil refinery is one of Russia’s largest which produces 17 million metric tonnes of oil per annum, and in the devastating strike three oil depots were blown up, the Kyiv Independent reports.

Russia’s Defence Ministry reported they had intercepted 121 Ukrainian drones, with 17 in the Kursk and Saratov Oblasts, 20 in Ryazan Oblast and 37 in Bryansk Oblast.

Thus, as a result of the strikes, fires broke out at the production facilities of the Ryazan Oil Refinery and at the Ryazan oil pumping station,” the General Staff said.

The report adds, “This is one of the key enterprises of the Russian microelectronic industry. The plant produces a wide range of microcircuits and components used in strategically important weapons systems.

“In particular, in the Topol-M and Bulava missile systems, the S-300 and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as in the on-board electronics of combat aircraft.”

Interfax-Ukraine‘s sources said the SBU reported, at least three tanks are burning on the territory of the Ryazan Oil Refinery.

“Additionally, a fire caused by UAV strikes engulfed a workshop where a diesel fuel and aviation kerosene hydrotreatment unit is located. Local residents recorded on social networks that they counted more than 50 explosions,” the report concludes.
