Newly reported internal policy documents linked to the Green Party of England and Wales have triggered controversy after media reports claimed the papers outline a highly expansive approach to immigration and social support for migrants.
According to the report, the materials are associated with comments attributed to deputy leader Zack Polanski and outline a vision described in the papers as moving toward “a world without borders”.
The alleged proposals reportedly discuss broad access to public services for people entering the country without authorisation.
The Green Party will provide immediate access to National Health Service treatment, permission to work without restriction, and accommodation support, with consideration of a universal basic income-style payment framework.
The documents reportedly frame migration as not inherently criminal and suggest treating some migrants as “citizens in waiting” while their legal status is resolved.
The reported proposals describe accommodation arrangements for migrants that would prioritise family units receiving private housing spaces, single men placed in shared accommodation and separate safeguarding housing for individuals identifying as LGBT.
The documents allegedly state that support could remain in place even if asylum claims are ultimately rejected. However, it is unclear whether this reflects final party policy or internal discussion material.
The report claims the papers suggest a shift in how immigration interviews are conducted.
According to the description, officials would be instructed to adopt a “neutral approach” during interviews, accepting applicant testimony unless contradictory evidence is available.
It also reportedly suggests removing financial penalties currently imposed on transport operators who carry undocumented passengers into the UK.
Reform UK Home Affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf told the Daily Mail: “Under the Green’s open borders plans not only is every hoodlum and criminal welcome to our shores but entitled to free housing, healthcare and anything else they might fancy.”
Yusuf added: “My only surprise is Zack Polanski isn’t promising to furnish them all with free heroin and crack cocaine which he wants to legalise.
“The Green’s policies are not only financially reckless but also dangerous.”
A Labour source said: “The British public rightly expect our country to have immigration controls that are fair and properly enforced – not the open-borders plan that the Greens are proposing.
A spokesman for the Green Party told the Daily Mail: “We’re proud of [this] policy, voted on and decided by our members, however much the Daily Mail tries to spin it.
And we know it’s popular as well – Green policy regularly comes out as the most popular in polls, and it is also going down well in Gorton and Denton where Greens are now neck-and-neck with Reform to win what used to be one of Labour’s safest seats in the country.
