The shadow health secretary Wes Streeting has said that Sir Tony Blair does not need to return to government to “try to rebuild his reputation.”

Appearing on Sky News’ Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips, Streeting laughed when it was suggested that he could be disappointed Sir Tony will no comeback to frontline politics.

This comes after The Sun reported the former Labour Prime Minister will not consider a seat in the House of Lords to support Labour as David Cameron has done for Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives.

There has been suggestions that Sir Tony could comeback to frontline politics as Ord Cameron has shown there could be a “path for Blair coming back.

Sir Tony’s spokeswoman told The Sun, “It’s not something he’d consider.”

Streeting told Phillips, “Look, unlike David Cameron, Tony Blair doesn’t have to return to government to try and rebuild his reputation.

“David Cameron, I think, had a disastrous legacy as Prime Minister.”

When asked if it would be good to have Sir Tony at the cabinet table, Streeting said, “We can call on Tony’s advice any time we like, and we often do.

“But it’s no surprise to any of us that he doesn’t fancy returning to the House of Lords and returning to Parliament.”
