The 162-year-old news agency reports Soros died at “XXX”
Reuters got a little ahead of themselves yesterday and published a pre-drafted obituary of the multimillionaire investor George Soros.
“George Soros, who died XXX at age XXX, was a predatory and hugely successful financier and investor, who argued paradoxically for years against the same sort of free-wheeling capitalism that made him billions,” said the obituary.
To add to the embarrassment, the obituary wasn’t the most flattering of all. It called Soros “predatory” and “free-wheeling”, going on to add that he was known as “the man who broke the Bank of England for selling short the British pound in 1992”
Apologising for their booboo, Reuters later wrote a clarification which read: “Reuters erroneously published an advance obituary of financier and philanthropist George Soros. A spokesman for Soros said that the New York-based financier is alive and well. Reuters regrets the error.”
