The GMB union has said that G4S staff have voted for industrial action in their first ever strike this December prompting fears there could be a cash shortage this Christmas.

1,200 G4S security staff who deliver cash to clients such as Tesco, Asda, Aldi, Santander, HSBC and Barclays will all be impacted with their cash supplies.

97% GMB union members voted in favour of strike action after G4S Cash Solutions had offered a part pay freeze and then tabled a 4% increase along with a lump sum bonus based on workers contracted hours.

Eamon O’Hearn, GMB national officer, said, “There are low paid workers doing a dangerous job, transferring the cash so many of us still rely on every day.

“All they are asking for is a wage they can live on, that they can feed their families on, that they can treat their children this Christmas on.

“G4S Cash staff provide an absolutely vital service.

“If they walk out, we can expect genuine cash shortages over the festive period.”
