If Britain does not reach an exit deal with the EU, the “position changes” on its agreement to pay a financial settlement to the bloc, Prime Minister Theresa May suggested MPs today.
Conservative MP Chris Philp asked PM if payment of Britain’s obligations to the EU is dependent on a deal being agreed with Brussels. To this, May responds by saying that Britain is a country that abides by its international obligations. Although she notes that if there is a “no-deal” Brexit, “the position changes”.
As part of a Brexit transition deal, Britain has agreed to pay the EU between 35 and 39 billion euros ($41-$46 billion) over the coming decades.
