Commuting in London on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and in the New Year

Here’s all you need to know about travelling over the festive period from the Transport for London website.

Christmas Day – Thursday, 25 December

According to Transport for London, there are no public transport services on this day.

Essential maintenance and planned works will take place across the Tube and rail network. Maintenance is scheduled for this quieter time of year to minimise disruption to customers as we work to improve the reliability of the network.

 

Boxing Day – Friday, 26 December

Tube

Circle line

No service between Edgware Road and Aldgate (via Victoria).

The service between Hammersmith and Aldgate will operate 10:30-20:30.

Travel advice: Use alternative routes and lines.

District line

No service between Embankment and Ealing Common, Richmond, Wimbledon or Kensington (Olympia), or between Edgware Road and Wimbledon.

Travel advice:

· Use alternative routes and lines

· A shuttle service will operate between Ealing Broadway and Ealing Common

· Rail replacement bus services will operate between:
– Turnham Green and Richmond
– Hammersmith and Wimbledon
– Earl’s Court and Wimbledon

· Piccadilly line will stop at Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Turnham Green and Chiswick Park

Jubilee line

No service between Waterloo and Finchley Road.

Travel advice:

· Use Metropolitan line between Wembley Park and Baker Street

· Use local buses

· Rail replacement bus services will operate between Finchley Road and Baker Street

Metropolitan

Services to and from Amersham and Chesham will start later than usual, at 08:30.

Piccadilly line

A Sunday service will operate with first trains from around 08:30.

A reduced service will operate to Heathrow Terminal 4 – every 15 to 20 minutes.

Travel advice: Please allow more time to travel to Heathrow Airport.

Waterloo & City

No service

All other lines

A Sunday service will operate with first trains from around 08:30.

Heading to Stamford Bridge for Chelsea v West Ham?

Travel advice:

Walk to/from:

· Earl’s Court or South Kensington for the Piccadilly line

· Hammersmith for the Piccadilly line

· Hammersmith for Hammersmith & City services into central London

· Victoria (via King’s Road)

There is no service on National Rail or London Overground.

Buses

Marylebone and Euston Roads

Essential improvement works on Marylebone Road and Euston Road from the 26 December to 4 January will result in road and buses lane closures between the Westway flyover (A40) and King’s Cross.

Buses will be diverted or will terminate earlier than usual to avoid the closures. Some stops will also be temporarily relocated or suspended during this time.

The following bus routes will be affected: 2, 10, 17, 18, 27, 30, 45, 46, 59, 63, 73, 74, 91, 205, 214, 259, 390, 453, 476, N18, N63, N73, N74, N91, N205.

South Tottenham

From 08:00 Tuesday 23 December 2014 until 10:00 Sunday 28 December 2014, High Road South Tottenham will be closed to all traffic and buses will be diverted.

All routes

In addition to the changes above, a Sunday service will operate on all routes except:

· 24-hour bus routes will operate from 06:00

· 24-hour and Night buses will operate a Sunday night service

· 96 will operate a Saturday service

 

New Year’s Eve – Wednesday, 31 December

As always, between 23:45 and 04:30 public transport will be free, thanks to TfL. This includes the bus, Tube, tram, DLR and London Overground.

This year you need a ticket to see the fireworks with no screens in Trafalgar and Parliament Square. However, you can still catch the action live on BBC1 from the comfort of your living room.

There will be a number of road closures, meaning many buses will be diverted from 2pm.

From 19:30, once the road closures are all in place, buses will run from the following hub areas:

  • Lambeth North – for buses towards South East, South and South West London
  • Holborn Station – for buses towards North East and East London
  • Oxford Circus – for buses towards East, West and North West London
  • Goodge Street- for buses towards North and North East London
  • Green Park – for buses towards West and South West London
  • Victoria – for buses towards South, South West and North West London

London Overground

Richmond to Stratford

A Saturday service will operate until normal finish time, then additional trains will run between Camden Road and Stratford only every 15 minutes.

Highbury & Islington to West Croydon/Clapham Junction

A Saturday service will operate until normal finish time, then additional trains will run between Highbury & Islington and Crystal Palace/West Croydon every 20 minutes.

· 02:52 Highbury & Islington to West Croydon

· 03:38 Crystal Palace to Highbury & Islington

· 03:56 West Croydon to Highbury & Islington

DLR

A normal weekday service will operate until 19:30. From 19:30 a ten minute frequency will operate.

Trams

A Saturday service will operate.

A special all-night service will operate into January 1 at the following times:

· Wimbledon to Beckenham Junction route 00:57 and every 30 minutes until 07:00

· Wimbledon to New Addington 01:12 and every 30 minutes until 06:42

· Beckenham Junction to Wi
mbledon 01:21 and every 30 minutes until 06:21, 06:50 & 07:20 (to West Croydon only)

· New Addington to Wimbledon 01:35 and every 30 minutes until 06:35

New Year’s Day – Thursday 1 January 2015

Stations are likely to be busier than normal so TfL is advising passengers to allow more time for the journey.

Buses

Marylebone and Euston Roads

A normal Saturday service will operate. (Service on the Waterloo & City line starts at 08:00.)
