A British Airways flight heading to Tel Aviv, Israel was diverted on Wednesday due to “security concerns.”

The British Airways flight BA165 was diverted and FlightRadar24 showed the plane being diverted and turning towards Greece.

Flight BA165 left London Heathrow this morning and was due to arrive in Tel Aviv at 15.05 hours on Wednesday.

The BA pilot diverted the aircraft after Israel’s airport authority said there was a security threat near to Ben Gurion Airport and at the time Hamas had fired rockets in the air near to Tel Aviv at the time the flight diverted.

Shortly after the BA pilot diverted the plane a missile struck Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Hamas’s armed wing announced.

The Al Qassam Brigades said it “bombarded” the airport in response to civilians being targeted by Israelis forces.

A BA spokesperson told Sky News, “Safety is always our highest priority and we’ve taken the decision to return our Tel Aviv flight to Heathrow.”

The airline’s statement added, “Following the latest assessment of the situation we’re suspending our flights to and from Tel Aviv.

“We’re contacting customers booked to travel to or from Tel Aviv to apologise for the inconvenience and offer options including a full refund and rebooking with another airline or with British Airways at a later date.

“We continue to monitor the situation in the region closely.”

The British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has also travelled to Israel to show the UK’s “solidarity” following the “barbaric acts of terrorism” from Hamas.
