The foreign secretary, Boris Johnson was reportedly caught on camera reciting a poem by Rudyard Kipling, in Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, the Burmese capital.

Andrew Patrick the British Ambassador stopped Johnson mid-flow before he could finish to say, “Bloomin’ idol made o’ mud/ Wot they called the Great Gawd Budd.”

Patrick said to Johnson: “You’re on mic. Probably not a good idea”, BoJo said: “What, The Road to Mandalay?”

Patrick said in response: “No. Not appropriate.”

Johnson simply replies, “good stuff” then continues to take photos.

The poem was written by Kipling and was done so through the eyes of the service personnel that were stationed in Burma.

In May this year Johnson visited the Nirman Sewak Jatha Sikh Temple in Bristol, he started to talk about ending tariffs on Whisky between the UK and India.

A woman who was there angrily said to him: “How dare you talk about alcohol in a Sikh temple?”

Johnson was flustered and tried to apologise, alcohol is against their religion.
