A Ukrainian assassination attempt against Vladimir Putin to blow him up was stopped by the US as it would have instantly ignited an “uncontrollable conflict” between Moscow and Washington.
Moscow has made the claim and Russian intelligence became aware that a kamikaze drone was to be used to kill Putin and the defence minister Andrei Belousov on 28 July, Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg.
The deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Ukraine’s plan was “madness” and the assassination would have led to “conflict” that could have escalated into a third world war.
Putin propagandist Olga Skaabeeva said the Russian defence minister held a call with US counterpart Lloyd Austin.
Skaabeeva said that Austin and Belousov held a “genuinely tough conversation” about the intelligence Russia had gathered.
Skaabeeva added, “Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov called the Pentagon himself for the first time, and he said something that made US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin squirm.
“If Kyiv’s operation had happened, it would have guaranteed to plunge Russia and the USA into a phase of uncontrollable conflict.”
Russian military expert Dmitry Kornev warned, “An assassination attempt, even if unsuccessful, would have provoked a very sharp response.
Kornev warned that killing Putin will instantly “burn all bridges to potential negotiations and normalising the conflict,” this would have “put an end to any aspirations for peace in this situation.”
Russia’s deputy Foreign Minister said, “We avoided a new escalation cycle. But that specific episode is very troubling.
“It was planned [by Ukraine]….to cause maximum damage and achieve the maximum media effect they needed.
“We got past that specific episode, thank God, which means that the signal from our military leadership and the defence minister to his American counterpart apparently had an effect.”
