The Office for National Statistics (ONS) have said in their latest fortnight business impact survey that almost a third of companies are experiencing a shortage of workers.

ONS data shows that 32% of businesses who have more than 10 workers are saying that they are short of staff and social work sectors are very badly affected with 51% of the firms are impacted.

ONS data shows in the three months to October 2022 unemployment has increased to 3.7%.

Another survey shows that there is “growing caution” with companies hiring new staff and 5% of businesses are planning redundancies over the coming quarter.

Of those firms two thirds will reduce staffing costs and around one in six companies have said the recent industrial action seen across the UK has impacted their businesses during November.
