The Prime Minister has an ambition to reinstate the controversial tax cut for the wealthy in the future despite the humiliating U-turn on Monday to ward off a Tory revolt.
Truss decided to back down on abolishing the 45% rate for those who earn over £150,000 as it had become a “distraction” as there was widespread criticism which led to opposition leaders call on the Chancellor to resign.
The Prime Minister said despite this she “would like to see the higher rate lower” which leaves the door open for he ambition to come back in the future.
In an interview with the BBC, Truss said, “I would like to see the higher rate lower.
“I want us to be a competitive country but I have listened to feedback, I want to take people with me.”
