Vladimir Putin has suffered the highest level Kremlin defection as Anatoly Chubais who was one of his closest allies has quit and fled Russia.

Chubias gave Putin his first job inside the Kremlin in the mid-90s but dramatically quit over his opposition to the Ukraine war.

Bloomberg reported that two sources who are aware of the situation confirmed the defection along with the Russian TASS news agency and Reuters, which is the highest level official to turn his back on Putin.

Chubias has always maintained close ties with Western officials and was the architect for Russia’s transformation of the economy.

Last week a senior economic advisor to the deputy Prime Minister quit his position over the invasion of Ukraine.

This week Ramzan Kadyrov, President of Chechnya and his fighters who are loyal to Putin also turned their back on the Russian President as quit fighting after losing “several hundred” troops and were airlifted out.

The Ukraine Security Service (SBU) said the Chechen Kadyrovites were evacuated after they suffered a high amount killed in action during the first three weeks of the war.

The SBU said on 13 March hundreds of Kadyrovites were evacuated from the Kyiv region to Belarus, however during the airlift Kadyrov said he will sending in thousands more to Ukraine.
