‘Vigilantes’ to take to the streets to defend East Sussex town from migrants

A town in East Sussex have created a “vigilante” group as the Home Office are planning to house 500 illegal immigrants at a former army barracks.

The “vigilante” group is called the “Crowborough Patrol” who will patrol the town centre during the day and night to be a “visible deterrent” to any “unwanted activity” they will also undergo a DBS background check prior to taking part.

It is believed that around 540 migrants will be housed at the 37-acre former army cadet training camp near Crowborough, The Telegraph reported.

The Crowborough Patrol will wear hi-vis jackets and red baseball caps and will be very visible during schools runs.

They said that should they see any bad behaviour which “warrants action” then it will be reported to the police.

The Telegraph reported a spokesman for the Crowborough Patrol said, “Our aim is simple: be visible and a deterrent.

“Over the coming weeks and months, and who knows, maybe years, you will see us strolling around Crowborough, taking in the sights of the hot spots.

“We aim to be visible during the morning and afternoon school runs in term time, and as the evening sets in each day.

“We are not here to confront, we are here as local residents, concerned for the welfare of our town, and hopefully make a difference between unwanted activity and a peaceful place to continue living.”

One local said: “A bunch of vigilantes with too much time on their hands is the last thing this town needs.

“It is already a powder-keg situation and what we don’t need is for a self-appointed gang ready to put a flame to it. It’s a provocation and should be stopped by the police.”
