The Department for Health has announced on Monday afternoon a “total of 24,960 people have been tested, 24,641 negative and 319” have tested positive for coronavirus in the UK.
The Health Secretary, Matt Hancock confirmed in the House of Commons on Monday afternoon another person has died in the UK from coronavirus. A woman in her 70s had underlying health conditions, bringing the total to four in just four days.
Hancock told MPs, “We continue to work to contain the virus, but we’re also taking action to delay its impact, to fund research and to mitigate its consequences.
“Throughout our approach is guided by the science. That is the bedrock on which we base all our decisions.
London has the most cases of coronavirus now standing at 61.
The government announced on Monday, they will not move to the “delay” phase and “social distancing” measure will not be introduced “yet.”
But, Dr David Nabarro, a World Health Organization (WHO) Covid-19 special envoy told the Standard, “We need to be aggressive. Being strong from the start truly does matter.
“Action now will determine how it will evolve in Britain in coming weeks.”
A Number 10 spokesman said the government accepts coronavirus “is going to spread in a significant way.”
