Russia launches one of their most destructive bombs causing devastating destruction

15th Apr 26 10:00 am

Russian forces have struck the centre of Sloviansk with a powerful aerial bomb, destroying civilian infrastructure and injuring at least one person, local officials have said.

According to Vadym Liakh, head of the city’s military administration, the attack took place at around 5am and involved a FAB-1500—one of Moscow’s most destructive air-dropped munitions.

The strike levelled a children’s sports facility, described as a historic landmark, and destroyed an administrative building, damaging another. The blast wave tore through surrounding residential areas, affecting at least 39 apartment blocks and 15 vehicles.

“At this time, we know of one injured person — a 57-year-old man. He is being prepared for transfer to a clinic in Dnipro,” Liakh said.

Images released by the administration show the scale of the destruction: a multi-storey residential building with shattered windows, collapsed balconies and heavily scarred facades. Fires broke out in several flats, with flames and thick smoke rising above the skyline, while debris and structural fragments littered the streets below.

The FAB-1500 is a heavy, high-precision guided bomb capable of causing extensive damage. Depending on its configuration, it can be fitted with advanced guidance systems and equipped with high-explosive, penetrating, or fuel-air explosive warheads, making it particularly devastating in urban environments.

Sloviansk, located close to the front line in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, has been repeatedly targeted in recent months by Russian strikes involving bombs, missiles and drones.

In a recent attack, Russian forces dropped two FAB-250 bombs on residential neighbourhoods, damaging more than 20 private homes and injuring several civilians, including a 12-year-old girl. Earlier strikes on the city centre killed four people and wounded around 20 others, among them children.

The latest attack underscores the growing use of heavy guided bombs by Russian forces, raising further concerns over the escalating impact on civilian areas near the front line.
