Pret A Manger nears deal to acquire Eat

In a bid for expansion, leading sandwich shop chain Pret A Manger is looking to acquire rival Eat in a bid to improve their vegetarian and vegan offerings.

Pret A Manger currently owns 400 stores in the UK and is potentially looking to turn Eat’s 94 stores into “Veggie Prets”.

Eat’s private equity owners, Horizon Capital appointed Spayne Lindsay to sell the business in February. In April, Eat reported losses of £17.2m in the year ending in June 2018 but has since said that sales have shown strong growth since then.

According to the Evening Standard, discussions are in an advanced stage however Horizon, Eat and Pret have declined to comment.
