Jeremy Corbyn just sacked his first minister. Here’s what we know about the “revenge reshuffle”

Update: A planned shadow cabinet meeting has been cancelled.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is currently undergoing a reshuffle of the shadow cabinet and, while speculation is rife, he’s currently keeping tight-lipped about who is moving where, who is being added and who is being… removed.

Many news organisations are calling it the “revenge reshuffle”, presumably because Corbyn is able to remove those who have disagreed with him since his cabinet was formed – though it’s not clear how this is in any way different to any other cabinet reshuffle.

There is one high profile sacking we’re already aware of though, and that’s former shadow culture secretary Michael Dugher.

His tweet revealing the decision has already had more than 1,000 retweets.

It has been speculated that Hilary Benn, who is the shadow foreign secretary, will not be removed from Corbyn’s cabinet, despite a public disagreement about the vote to launch air strikes on Syria before Christmas.

Maria Eagle, currently shadow defence secretary, is likely to be replaced, but it’s not clear yet whether she will be moved to another shadow cabinet position.
