Remember how in May the FTSE 100 hit a 13-year high? Well, chances are that the index could hit 8,000 by the end of next year.

Market strategists at Citigroup have predicted that factors including fading fears about a eurozone break-ups and “animal spirits” in company boardrooms will help boost the markets.

In further good news, the value Britain’s blue chip companies, which are up 12% this year, is expected to soar by a further 20% over the next 15 months.

Citigroup’s european equities head Anna Esposito said: “We expect falling risks and rising animal spirits to drive a further re-rating of UK equities in the coming 12 to 18 months.”
