Culture secretary Nicky Morgan has announced plans to provide high-quality 4G coverage to 95% of the UK by 2025 and she wants all telecom firms to work together and sign up to the scheme.
She also wants the mobile operators to invest £530m into the plans
Vodafone’s chief technology officer Scott Petty says his company is “taking our fair portion”.
He says: “We think this is actually the most efficient mechanism to get to this level of coverage. Some of the earlier proposals would have seen us building duplicate infrastructure which is inefficient and actually would have reduced competition.”
