Explosions have erupted on Iran’s Kharg Island on Tuesday, with state media reporting that the strikes were carried out by the US and Israel.
The island, a key oil and gas hub, has previously been targeted by American military operations, though vital infrastructure has been spared—until now.
In a Telegram post, Iranian state media said: “The American-Zionist enemy has carried out several attacks on Kharg Island, and several explosions have also been heard on the island.”
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) warned their neighbours “restraint is over,” adding they will target US and allied infrastructure and disrupt regional oil and gas supplies “for years,” LBC reported.
The attacks coincide with warnings from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard that “restraint is over” and pledges to target US and allied infrastructure while disrupting regional oil and gas supplies “for years.”
President Donald Trump has set Tehran an ultimatum: end the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by 8 PM Washington time on Tuesday (1 AM Wednesday UK time) or face attacks that would “send them back to the Stone Ages.”
At a press briefing on Monday, Trump threatened to destroy civilian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants, dismissing concerns over potential war crimes.
“We are obliterating their country,” Trump said.
“They just don’t want to say ‘uncle.’ They don’t want to concede. And if they don’t, they’ll have “no bridges, no power plants, and no anything” … If it were up to me, I’d take the oil and keep the oil; we’d make plenty of money.”
🇺🇸🇮🇷 With the US targeting strategic sites on Kharg Island and Israel expanding strikes across Iran, this increasingly looks like the opening moves of a broader second phase. https://t.co/yQ91CDJiYT pic.twitter.com/JXE2rZnJ9r

Iran rejected a proposed ceasefire that would have temporarily reopened the Strait, describing it as insufficient. Tensions in the Gulf remain at their highest since the early 2000s, raising fears of a full-scale regional conflict.
