Explosions ring out as Ukraine strikes Saky airfield in Crimea with ‘all targets shot down’

Overnight the Ukrainian Air Force carried out a daring raid on Saky airfield in Crimea and successfully “shot down” all targets.

There was reports of explosions in Crimea in the area of the Saky airfield late on Friday evening.

According to the pro-Ukrainian telegram channel “Crimean Wind” there was around 10 explosions in the Yevpatoria area.

The Saky airfield is in the village of Novofedorovka in occupied Crimea and more explosions were heard in the area.

Mykola Oleshchuk, Ukraine’s Air Force commander, said that Ukraine’s pilots destroyed a control point of the Russian military at the Crimean airfield, the Kyiv Post reported.

Oleshchuk wrote on social media, “Saky airfield! All targets have been shot down!…. Thanks to our pilots for their excellent work!”

The crucial Kerch bridge was temporarily closed overnight and the Russian Defence Ministry has not as yet made any comments.

Ukrainian forces have stepped up their fight in Crimea and on Thursday the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit a Russian command post in the Crimean port town of Sevastopol.

The AFU also struck a military unit in Crimea and blew up a “military radar station unit in Sevastopol.”

Ukraine said on Friday that they have caused “serious damage” to Russia’s defence systems inside Crimea.

The Associated Press reported on Friday that Kyiv remains steadfast in their strategy to target Crimea.

Oleshchuk said that they had also attacked a Russian unit near to Yevpatoria in Crimea.

He said, Thanks to the air force pilots and everyone who planned the operation for perfect combat work.”

Russian sources claimed that they had destroyed ten guided missiles launched by Ukraine in Sevastopol.

AFP reported that fragments of artillery shells came raining down over the area and air raid sirens were heard across Crimea on Thursday evening.

The AFP had described “the sound of projectiles whooshing overhead,” which comes after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Russia will be hit with Ukraine’s “wrath.”

The Russian Defence Ministry said that their forces intercepted 36 drones over Crimea and that they had destroyed a Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missile in north west of the Black Sea on Thursday.
