Eddie Stobart, one of the UK’s leading logistics companies, has deployed the Dell Boomi™ (Boomi) integration platform to harness innovation, avoid downtime and cut integration time by 50%.

Eddie Stobart, whose fleet of trucks have been transporting goods across Great Britain and Europe since 1970, selected Boomi’s integration platform as a service (iPaaS) to help dramatically improve the operations of its B2B trading partner network and bring greater speed, flexibility and efficiencies to its entire business.

John Court, CIO at Eddie Stobart said, “We needed a platform that was agile, flexible and able to respond to customer preferences and constraints.

“As an always-on business, high availability was critical to us, but it had to be cost-effective. Being in the third-party logistics space, it is imperative that we deliver in a dynamic fashion that allows us to adapt to the changing needs of our customers. Dell Boomi makes it possible for us to do that quickly and efficiently.”

Prior to Boomi, the company had been working with a variety of traditional electronic data interchange (EDI) providers, but downtime, long project timelines and a lack of innovation were holding the company back from quickly onboarding customers and building upon the relationships it had forged and developed. Downtime was resulting in delays across the entire supply chain meaning that the company was struggling to meet the evolving needs of its customers. Eddie Stobart knew it was time for change.

Following a trial and proof-of-concept, the company deployed the Boomi integration platform using a range of Boomi capabilities including integration, B2B/EDI management and API design and management products. The Boomi platform now underpins a number of business-critical processes for Eddie Stobart, helping improve workflows for customer orders, logistics management, enterprise operations, warehouse management and port transport systems.

With Boomi, Eddie Stobart  which operates c.2,500 vehicles, c.4,000 trailers and 26 distribution centers throughout the UK and Europe, providing its services to a range of national and international customers could cut its warehouse integration project timelines, which could take up to 26 weeks, in half.

Derek Thompson, VP of EMEA, Dell Boomi said, “We’re proud to have supported Eddie Stobart transform its digital infrastructure. Underpinned by our integration platform as a service technology, the company has seen the benefits of building a more agile, connected and customer-centric business.

“Eddie Stobart has not only dramatically improved its agility and control in onboarding and managing trading partners but also improved the service it provides customers, supporting the business’ ambitious growth and development plans,” he added.
