New research from The Accountancy Partnership has revealed that there was a 23% increase in Google searches for the term ‘Christmas temp jobs’ this September compared to September 2024.
Typically, searches for this rise over October and November, showing that Brits are looking to secure festive income earlier than ever.
The study also shows a dramatic long-term rise in job-seeking behaviour around the festive period.
In September 2023, searches for “Christmas temp jobs” sat at 8,100, compared to 18,100 in September 2025 – a huge 123% surge.
The September prior, 2022, shows that there were just 5,400 searches for the term ‘Christmas temp job’, which is a 235% decrease in searches compared to September 2025.
The data shows that over the past three years, Christmas temp jobs have become more sought-after, becoming a much more competitive market.
Lee Murphy, Managing Director of The Accountancy Partnership, specialists in tax for freelancers, self-employed and contractors, comments on the research:
“This year, we’ve seen a noticeable shift in how early and how urgently people are looking for Christmas work. A 23% year-on-year rise in searches suggests many households are feeling the pressure well before the festive season begins.”
“2024 and 2025 have been challenging for workers in sectors like retail, logistics, and hospitality, where redundancies and reduced hours have hit hard.
We’re also seeing self-employed people and freelancers exploring temp roles as a way to balance income during slower trading periods. Seasonal work once offered a top-up for festive gifts, but now for many it’s a vital buffer to help cover essential bills.”
“Businesses should prepare for strong demand from job-seekers and ensure they have clear, efficient hiring processes in place. Those able to offer flexible shifts, fast onboarding, and competitive rates will attract the best seasonal talent in what is becoming a highly active labour market.”
