Online retail giant Amazon is raising the minimum wage for all British workers. It will now pay £10.50 ($13.59) an hour to all Amazon employees in the London area while the staff across the rest of Britain will get £9.50 an hour, effective from November 1.
The current UK minimum wage is £7.83 for workers over the age of 25 while the minimum wage currently paid to UK Amazon workers is £8 an hour.
Billionaire founder Jeff Bezos added: “We listened to our critics, thought hard about what we wanted to do, and decided we want to lead. We’re excited about this change and encourage our competitors and other large employers to join us.”
This is not all. The online giant is also hiking the minimum wage for all US workers to $15 an hour.
