Fewer Britons like Facebook, with the social network losing over two million monthly visitors in the UK in the last six months, it has emerged.
A Research by social media analysts SocialBakers also found that the last month has been particularly disastrous for Facebook, as 1.4 million fewer UK users logged into their accounts. In the US, the social network lost over six million visitors since March.
“The problem is that, in the US and UK, most people who want to sign up for Facebook have already done it,” new media specialist Ian Maude at Enders Analysis told the Guardian.
“There is a boredom factor where people like to try something new. Is Facebook going to go the way of Myspace? The risk is relatively small, but that is not to say it isn’t there.”
Facebook is said to be losing out to other social networks like the photo sharing site Instagram that won 30 million users in 18 months before Facebook acquired the business.
The number of Facebook users in Canada, Spain, France, Germany and Japan are also falling. However, monthly visitors in Brazil were up 6% to 70 million and 4% to 64 million in the last month, the study showed.
